TÜV SÜD evaluates compliance of electronic products

Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED

(PresseBox) (München, )
The delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30 supplementing the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU will apply mandatorily from 1 August 2024 and opens up a new field of activity for notified bodies. From 1 August 2024, a broad range of electronic products will only be allowed to enter EU markets if they have been evaluated for compliance with the cyber security requirements of the RED. TÜV SÜD certifies telecommunications as a world leader and can support manufacturers who need to fulfill these requirements.

The delegated act of the Radio Equipment Directive on cybersecurity and privacy has been published in the Official Journal of the EU. The obligations established therein will be applicable as of August 1st 2024. Manufacturers, importers and distributors placing radio equipment on the European Union (EU) market are responsible for ensuring that devices meet the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU.

TÜV SÜD is an EU Notified Body authorized to evaluate devices for compliance with the requirements of the RED. Products covered by the RED are electrical or electronic products that intentionally receive or emit radio waves for radio communication and/or radiodetermination as well as all radio receivers, including broadcast sound receivers and digital terrestrial broadcast TV receivers among other things.

“We can support customers worldwide with accredited test laboratories, highly trained experts and an indepth knowledge of regulatory requirements”, says Florian Wolff von Schutter, Manager IoT Cyber Security and Functional Safety at TÜV SÜD Product Service. “The EU market is one of the most important for electronic products after China and the US1. Also it is still expected to grow by 1 or 2 percent each year, so it will remain attractive for manufacturers to secure their access to this market.”

TÜV SÜD has also published a report on the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU, which can be found here alongside further information:
