eMobile motors in three sizes
WITTENSTEIN's new eMobile solutions are integrated, high-performance motors in three performance classes. The version for mid-range or racing cars, for example, has a power / weight ratio of 2 kW/kg. All three sizes can be used as both one-wheel and central drives. They are integrated systems in which the electronics, motor and gearhead modules are optimally matched. The electronics are characterized by a compact design, high power density and intelligent monitoring of the overall system. In addition to a high power / weight ratio, the motors boast an enormous force / torque density and very good efficiency. The gearhead is built entirely from lightweight materials that reduce its weight impressively and improve the power density. As assembly-friendly units, these modular drive systems guarantee maximum efficiency by facilitating optimal interaction between the electrical and mechanical components - and the supplied power is converted extremely efficiently into enhanced road performance, such as an extended range for tomorrow's vehicles.
Efficient drive technology: crucial for the success of eMobility
The range that can be achieved by electric vehicles will be one of the most important factors influencing the success or failure of electromobility. In addition to the supply of energy and the weight and design of the cars, for instance, success will also depend crucially on the availability of intelligent drive systems offering maximum possible efficiency. In other words, the electronics, motor and gearhead must be matched to one another perfectly if the vehicles are to run efficiently. "As a global pioneer in the high-tech market for eMobile drive solutions, WITTENSTEIN learned to master this interaction between electrical and mechanical components several decades ago", says Dr. Manfred Wittenstein, President of the WITTENSTEIN group. "Thanks to this expertise, we are now excellently placed to anticipate and develop trailblazing drive concepts for the upcoming generations."
Integration and modularity as key success drivers
The eMobile drive solutions that form the backbone of the new modular design concept owe their success to two main characteristics: integration and modularity. "Integration" refers to the unit comprised of a motor, gearhead and power electronics, each of which is designed to achieve maximum efficiency. The modular building block approach allows a non-variable parts strategy - which moreover makes good economic sense - to be pursued with the aim of constructing different drive modules for different vehicle types and eMobile performance classes from identical components with the help of simple and standardized interfaces. This modularity further underlines WITTENSTEIN's innovation and development expertise in the eMobility field. The modular philosophy provides an efficient technology and business platform on which to create completely new drive architectures as well as high-end mechatronic drive solutions characterized by extremely high power densities.
More systems for a variety of vehicle and performance classes will gradually become available in this way. Thanks to its modular product and production concept, WITTENSTEIN sees itself as an ideal partner for the automotive industry with regard to engineering, development and fleet tests.
WITTENSTEIN - a reliable partner from the project launch to series production and beyond
As a developer of eMobile drive technologies, WITTENSTEIN is in demand as a partner for numerous business enterprises and research institutes in the crucial electromobility market. This is true throughout all the phases of a project - from consulting or comparisons with alternative drive systems through the performance of feasibility studies and system engineering, the development of hardware, software and components or solutions for special applications to trials of new concepts and the construction of test models and prototypes. The production of small to medium-sized series at WITTENSTEIN represents the interface to the market, in other words to the manufacture of real electric and hybrid vehicles.
WITTENSTEIN's vast know-how ensures that eMobile drive concepts evolved in collaboration with partners are realized economically - something that is essential if the vehicle purchase price and also the running costs are to be competitive enough to permit the establishment of a mass market for electromobile applications.
