Z1 SecureMail Gateway is the central server solution for e-mail encryption and signatures. The PKI-based e-mail encryption is based on the two internationally established standards, S/MIME and OpenPGP, and requires digital certificates. Private and public keys of internal users are automatically generated, managed and, if necessary, published. Z1 Backbone CertServer takes care of the automatic management and validation of external certificates. Password-based encryption using WebSafe and via PDF containers is implemented through the messenger components of Z1 SecureMail Gateway. This means that confidential exchanges are possible with anyone, even without PKI.
The current version of Z1 SecureMail Gateway now supports Debian 6.0 (Squeeze). Alongside various optimisations in terms of functions, performance and usability, it is now possible to establish a simultaneous connection to several trustcenters with Z1 SecureMail Gateway. This enables different certificate authorities to be used in parallel within one client. For companies that use an internal Microsoft PKI, a connection is now available as standard. The settings can be easily configured using the GUI. The Z1 CA connector links to a "Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Service" (MS PKI). The CA connector enables X.509 certificates to be issued, revoked or declared invalid as automatically as possible.
In addition, disclaimer texts for outbound e-mails and status footers for inbound e-mails can now include HTML content ("text/html" encoding). "With the new features, we have once again responded to the desires and needs of our customers," explains Herbert Nebel, Managing Director at Zertificon Solutions GmbH.
