DAMMY of the Year Award goes to Canto

Canto Cumulus inventor wins Createasphere DAMMY of the Year award for his contribution to the digital asset management industry

(PresseBox) (Berlin, )
BERLIN, Germany — 28 SEP 2011 — Canto, maker of Canto Cumulus digital asset management (DAM) software, announced today that Canto co-founder and Canto Cumulus inventor Thomas Schleu has won the Createasphere “DAMMY of the Year” award. Announced last week at the Createasphere digital asset management conference in New York City, the award is presented to the “outstanding individual who has positively impacted the success & growth of the digital asset industry and community,” according to the Createasphere website.

Mr. Schleu invented Canto Cumulus more than 20 years, long before digital asset management was recognized as an industry. Since then, Canto Cumulus servers have been sold more than 14,000 times, with more than one million user licenses distributed worldwide. Among the technology firsts introduced by Canto Cumulus were thumbnail images to represent the content of image files, user-defined metadata fields to permit organizations to find files based on any information, and a live Web interface to a DAM system.

“This award means a lot not only to me, but to all of Canto,” Schleu said. “The combined efforts of everyone on the Canto team over the past two decades have made Cumulus what it is today. I proudly share this with the entire company.”

In a separate session, Canto’s “Heroes of Digital Asset Management” session featured Canto Cumulus customers Ryan Nowak from the Green Bay Packers, Tom Barnouw from WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), and Kathleen Wagner from the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Panelists offered advice and tips to the audience about ways in which to improve DAM system usability. Their advice is featured in Canto’s “Building a Better DAM” white paper, available at http://canto.com/betterdam.

“It was great to meet so many people in the DAM industry,” said Green Bay Packers Computer Systems Analyst Ryan Nowak. “And seeing Canto win the DAM industry’s highest honor just further convinced me the Packers are using the best DAM system available.”
