Accelerating Energy Sector Decarbonization through Waste-Derived Fuels and CCS Technology

Hosted by the projects ACT LOUISE and RFCS REBECCA, this webinar will provide insights into the future of sustainable energy.

Accelerating the decarbonization of the energy sector requires innovative solutions. This webinar will explore the substitution of fossil fuels with waste-derived alternatives and the application of carbon capture technologies oxyfuel and chemical looping combustion. Researchers and industry experts discuss the viability of oxyfuel for retrofitting and chemical looping combustion as a highly efficient CCS process, focusing on recent large-scale pilot testing, further technology scale-up, challenges and potentials in terms of corrosion, and impact assessments (TEA/LCA). Additionally, the webinar will feature an operator’s perspective and an outlook on the further experimental upscaling of chemical looping.

Programme:

09:00 Welcome & introduction

09:15 Insights from pilot testing of fluidized bed combustion including oxyfuel and chemical looping combustion as waste-to-energy (WtE) technologies

09:45 Novel findings from corrosion measurements in WtE retrofit and chemical looping combustion plants

10:30 Technology scale-up of fluidized bed and chemical looping combustion for WtE

11:00 Techno-economic and life-cycle assessment of WtE and WtE-chemical looping plants

11:30 Outlook on an operator perspective of decarbonizing the energy sector and further upscaled pilot tests of CLC

12:00 Open discussion

12:30 End of the webinar
