Der Sensor erzeugt und misst stimulierte Brillouin Streuung in Lichtwellenleitern. Mit diesen Daten können unabhängig die auf den Lichtwellenleiter wirkenden Zugspannung und die Temperatur gemessen werden. Das System misst Zugspannung bzw. Temperaturänderungen mit einer Genauigkeit von 2µEpsilon bzw. 0.1°C über eine Länge von bis zu 40km mit 10cm Ortsauflösung.
