Die BKW FMB Energie AG (BKW) plant, eine neue Leitung zwischen Pieterlen und Leuzigen mit einer Spannung von 132 Kilovolt (kV) zu realisieren. Diese Verbindung ist das letzte Teilstück der 132-kV-Verbindung zwischen Pieterlen-Leuzigen-Birchi-Utzenstorf und der BKW-Unterstation in Bickigen. Die künftigen Versorgungsbedürfnisse haben Auswirkungen auf die bisher beabsichtigte Trasseeführung und die technische Gestaltung des Projekts. Statt einer Leitung über Pieterlen-Rüti-Leuzigen möchte die BKW in Absprache mit den Stadtwerken Grenchen sowie der AEK Energie AG in Solothurn ein Trassee via Grenchen-Selzach realisieren. Wegen der dichten Besiedlung projektiert die BKW eine erdverlegte Kabelleitung. Mit dieser Massnahme bietet die BKW eine massgeschneiderte Lösung an,
