Carl Zeiss hat am Frankfurter Max-Planck-Institut für Biophysik die Installation eines Transmissions-Elektronenmikroskops mit neuartiger Optik zur hochaufgelösten Abbildung biologischer Proben mit erfolgreicher Kundenabnahme abgeschlossen.

PACEM heißt das auf die Abbildung kontrastarmer biologischer Proben spezialisierte Transmissions-Elektronenmikroskop (TEM), welches Forscher des Exzellenzclusters "Makromolekulare Komplexe" in Frankfurt, gemeinsam mit dem Optikkonzern Carl Zeiss in Oberkochen, entwickelt und nun am Max-Planck-Institut für Biophysik (MPI-BP) installiert haben. Die Bezeichnung PACEM steht für Phase Contrast Aberration Corrected Electron Microscope, womit ein spezielles Verfahren bezeichnet wird, welches auch geringste Kontrastunterschiede in der Probe verstärkt und so eine besser auswertbare Probenabbildung ermöglicht.
