Für effektives Brand Color Management ist eine hohe Farbtreue bei Sonderfarben notwendig, etwa bei der Erstellung von Verpackungen mittels Digitaldruck oder bei der Erstellung von digitalen Inkjet Proofs für konventionell gefertigte Packmittel (z.B. flexible Verpackungen, Faltschachteln, Kartonagen). Ebenso ist eine hohe Genauigkeit bei der Farbwiedergabe von Corporate Colors auf Textilien zunehmend nachgefragt. Viele Hersteller haben jedoch eigene Farbkollektionen für ihre Produkte herausgebracht, so dass die Anzahl der weltweit gebräuchlichen Farbkollektionen sicher in die Tausende geht. Freie Farbberechnung ist hiermit kaum möglich, Farbvergleiche müssen von Hand ermittelt werden. Das Urheberrecht setzt der freien Verwendbarkeit weitere Grenzen.
