Immer mehr Applikationen werden mit TFTs ausgestattet. Dabei werden die Anwendungen immer komplexer und müssen extreme Anforderungen hinsichtlich des Temperaturbereiches erfüllen. Im Gegensatz zu einem herkömmlichen Inverter, bei dem eine hohe Ausgangsspannung durch Induktion erzeugt wird, nutzen die Inverter den Piezoeffekt. Beim inversen Piezoeffekt deformiert eine angelegte Spannung die Kristalle des Keramikelements und erzeugt eine mechanische Energie, die durch den Piezoeffekt wiederum in elektrische gewandelt wird. Der piezoelektrische Wandler arbeitet mit einer bestimmten Resonanzfrequenz.
