Sonnenenergie ist in aller Munde - aber leider nicht auf allen Dächern. Dabei ist gerade Solarthermie - die direkte Nutzung der Sonnenwärme durch technisch immer raffiniertere Solarkollektoren - stark im Kommen: Im Jahr 2011 ist die Nutzung der Sonnenwärme um 149.000 neue solarthermische Anlagen gestiegen, es konnten zehn Prozent mehr Kollektoren auf die Dächer gebracht werden. Die Fläche aller solarthermischen Anlagen in Deutschland summiert sich damit auf rund 15,3 Millionen Quadratmeter. Auch der Umwelt ist gedient: Durch die bisherige Nutzung konnte die Solarthermie über eine Million Tonnen CO2 einsparen.
