Plastiktüten: Verbote sind reine Symbolpolitik

Mit Unverständnis reagiert der Handelsverband Deutschland (HDE) heute auf die Ankündigung der Bundesumweltministerin, Plastiktüten künftig zu verbieten. „Die Einzelhändler haben Wort gehalten und die Vereinbarung mit dem Bundesumweltministerium übererfüllt“, sagt Stefan Genth, Hauptgeschäftsführer des Handelsverbandes Deutschland (HDE). Seit Inkrafttreten der Selbstverpflichtung im Jahr 2016 werden in Deutschland knapp zwei Drittel Tüten weniger konsumiert. Bei leichten Plastiktüten betrage der Verbrauch sogar nur noch die Hälfte der EU-Zielvorgabe für 2025. „Wenn die Plastiktüten komplett verboten werden, stellt sich die Frage nach umweltfreundlichen Alternativen“, so Genth. Angesichts des geringen Anteils von Tüten am Plastikmüll sei die Ankündigung der Ministerin reine Symbolpolitik.
