Mobile Services sind der Wachstumsmarkt in den nächsten Jahren. Nach einer Analyse der ITU, dem Dachverband der Telekombranche, wird der Umsatz mit mobilen Datendiensten von heute weltweit rund 50 Milliarden Euro auf 185 Milliarden Euro im Jahr 2008 ansteigen. Bereits zum Weihnachtsgeschäft 2004 sollen etwa fünf bis zehn Prozent aller verkauften Handys UMTS-fähig sein. Immer mehr Unternehmen setzen auch auf das mobile Breitbandnetz. Die Weiterentwicklung des Mobilfunks hin zu multimedialen Diensten und der Start der UMTS-Netze stehen daher im Mittelpunkt der Communication World 2004, einem der in Europa führenden Kongresse zum Thema mobile Anwendungen.
