Laser-Profil-Scanner von Micro-Epsilon führen echte 3D-Messungen auf Basis kalibrierter Daten durch. Diese Technologie wird unter anderem von der TU-Darmstadt eingesetzt. Die leistungsstarken 3D-Sensoren der Serie scanCONTROL 2900 führen in Kombination mit Kamerasystemen hochauflösende Messungen von Muskelmasse oder Knochen durch.

Es handelt sich hierbei um einen vollkommen neuen Ansatz im Bereich der Mikrochirurgie. Mit den zusätzlich gewonnen Daten des Laser-Profil-Scanners werden Aussagen über die Topologie des organischen Materials abgeleitet. Durch dieses zusätzliche Wissen können computerbasierte Assistenzsysteme zukünftig bei Operationen besser unterstützen.
