Mit der LED Diamond Dragon bringt OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Anfang 2008 einen weißen Superstrahler im SMT-Gehäuse auf den Markt. Er vereint die enorme Helligkeit von 250 lm (bei 1,4 A) mit einem sehr niedrigen spezifischen Wärmewiderstand von 2,5 K/W. Die LED gibt es im gesamten Weißbereich sowie in allen anderen Farben. So eignet sie sich für Innen und Außen in der Allgemein-beleuchtung sowie für den Automobilbereich - dort z.B. als Tagfahrlicht oder Nebelschlussleuchte.

Mit dem außerordentlich kleinen Wärmewiderstandswert von Rth = 2,5 K/W im SMT-Gehäuse kann die im Chip entstehende Wärme effizient nach außen abgeleitet werden.
