Unternehmen, die bereits auf Linux als Server-Betriebssystem setzen, können in Zukunft auch Client-seitig stärker von Linux profitieren. Der JANUS-Generator der Dortmunder otris software AG setzt hier neue Maßstäbe.

Der Anwendungsgenerator JANUS ist ein umfassendes Werkzeug zur Entwicklung kaufmännisch-administrativer Client-/Server-Anwendungen. Ausgehend von fachlichen UML-Modellen erzeugt der Generator Anwendungsserver in C++, die sowohl unter Linux als auch unter Windows sowie anderen Unixen laufen können. Bisher konnte JANUS bereits die zugehörigen Clients für Windows
und Web-Clients per JSP (Java Server Pages) generieren. Ab jetzt steht die Palette der genannten Betriebssysteme auch den Clients offen: die für Linux/Unix-Systeme generierten Clients benötigen keinerlei Zusatz-Software (Wine, virtuelle Desktops) und stehen den Windows-Clients in nichts nach.

Der Trend, Linux auch auf dem Desktop zu unterstützen, ist bereits seit einiger Zeit erkennbar, wie Vorstand Dr. Ch.
