Das Hepatitis-C-Virus (HCV) kann chronische Lebererkrankungen verursachen – weltweit sind etwa 58 Millionen Menschen betroffen.
Es gibt keinen Impfstoff gegen das Hepatitis-C-Virus.
Forschende des Paul-Ehrlich-Instituts haben herausgefunden, dass das Guanylat-bindende Protein 1 (GBP1) entgegen bisheriger Annahmen eine provirale Wirkung hat, die Virusinfektion also begünstigt.
Die Forschungsergebnisse werfen ein neues Licht auf das Verständnis der Interaktion zwischen HCV und dem menschlichen Wirtsfaktor GBP1 und sollten bei der Anwendung Interferon-basierter Therapien berücksichtigt werden.
