Neuer Hochfluss-Solarsimulator eingeweiht

Am Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) ist jetzt der neue Hochfluss-Solarsimulator in Betrieb. Mit dieser weltweit leistungsstärksten Anlage lassen sich in Solarchemie-Reaktoren extrem hohe Temperaturen erzeugen. Wissenschaftler des PSI und der ETH Zürich können so unter kontrollierten Strahlungsbedingungen und vom Wetter unabhängig Prozesse erforschen, die eine effiziente Herstellung solarer Brennstoffe und neuartiger Werkstoffe ermöglichen.

Zehn starke Xenon-Lichtbogen-Lampen mit verspiegelten Reflektoren fokussieren ihr Licht auf eine kleine Fläche. Im Brennpunkt der neu entwickelten Forschungsanlage erreichen die Leuchten eine Strahlungsintensität von mehr als 10’000 Sonnen und eine maximale Wärmeleistung von 50 Kilowatt. Dabei werden Temperaturen von bis zu 2500 Grad Celsius erzeugt.
