Shimadzu, weltweiter Hersteller von Geräten der Bildgebenden Diagnostik, hat für Radiographie, Fluoroskopie und Kardiologie neue Systeme vorgestellt, die durch Flat-Panel-Detektoren (FPD) mit direkter Konvertierung neue Anwendungsmöglichkeiten eröffnen. Dazu zählen innovative Techniken wie zum Beispiel Tomosynthese, Dual-Energy Subtraktion, Slot Radiographie und Cone Beam CT.

Verglichen mit Flachdetektoren mit indirekter Konvertierung bietet die Shimadzu "Safire" FPD-Technologie deutliche Vorteile hinsichtlich der Bildqualität und Strahlendosis. Die Direct-Conversion-Technologie mit den bis zu 17-Zoll-Detektoren (43 x 43 cm) erzeugt klarere hochauflösende Bilder bei geringeren Streuverlusten und vermindertem Rauschen. Derzeit befinden sich weltweit schon einige Hundert "Safire" Systeme von Shimadzu im klinischen Einsatz.
