Universität Stuttgart startet bei "Green Flight Challenge"

Der "e-Genius", das Elektroflugzeug der Fakultät Luft- und Raumfahrttechnik und Geodäsie der Universität Stuttgart, startet bei der "Green Flight Challenge 2011" (GFC) in Santa Rosa (Kalifornien, USA), die von 25. September bis 3. Oktober stattfindet. Der mit 1,5 Mio. US-Dollar dotierte Wettbewerb ist für Flugzeuge mit Elektro-, Biosprit- und Hybridantrieb. Zum Sieger gekürt wird das Fluggerät, das die größte Wirtschaftlichkeit bietet. Der "e-Genius" wurde von einem Team um Prof. Rudolf Voit-Nitschmann speziell für den effizienten Elektroflug entwickelt und ist ein zweisitziges Flugzeug in Kohlefaser-Kunststoffbauweise, ausgestattet mit einem 60 Kilowatt-Elektromotor.
