ECS 2017: Trendsetting solutions from 3M and Dyneon

(PresseBox) (Neuss, )
3M Advanced Materials division will be presenting its trendsetting solutions when the international coating and paint industry meets from 4th to 6th of April in Nuremberg for the European Coatings Show (ECS). The multi technology company 3M and its subsidiary Dyneon are exhibiting innovative additives at Booth 226 in Hall 4.

Among the new products shown at the trade fair are the 3M Glass Bubbles S28HS. These lightweight fillers manufactured from water resistant and chemically resistant borosilicate glass influences the properties of coatings and paints. Amongst other things, the use of the new micro hollow glass spheres leads to a lower density and reduced thermal conductivity of the composite. A positive effect for the interior plaster in houses – with the aid of the glass bubbles the room climate can be improved and mould prevented. In addition, the 3M Glass Bubbles S28HS have a unique ratio of strength to density that qualifies them for the so-called airless spray process.

3M Fluorosurfactants provide for smooth surfaces

"Orange peel" or "fish eyes" are well known problems that have to be overcome in the coating and paint industry. 3M is presenting its specific solution for this at the ECS: the 3M Fluorosurfactants (FC-4430, FC-4432 and FC-4434) control the surface tension of a painting throughout the entire painting procedure. They are based on the so-called C4 chemistry and have a REACH limit value of 25ppb. 3M Fluorosurfactants support the wetting of a large number of materials during painting, even difficult to wet, low-polarity surfaces such as plastic and poorly pre-treated metals. Beyond that, the innovative additives help to control the surface tension during the entire drying and hardening phase. The result: smooth and shiny coatings.

3M Dyneon PTFE Micropowders with non-stick properties

3M Dyneon PTFE Micropowders will also be exhibited at the ECS trade fair. Thanks to their excellent non-stick properties, these innovative additives are exceptionally well suited to coatings and paints. Not only that, the Dyneon PTFE Micropowders exhibit virtually universal resistance to chemicals. They can be used within a wide range of temperatures from -190 °C to +260 °C. In inks for high quality printed materials, PTFE Micropowders improve the surface smoothness and the colour graduation as well as the gloss and abrasion resistance.
