Die beiden Unternehmen kooperieren, seit AkzoNobel 2008 mit der Marke Sikkens offizieller Lieferant von Lacksystemen für das Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formel 1 Team wurde. Im Rahmen der neuen vierjährigen Vereinbarung wird AkzoNobel eng mit McLaren Racing zusammen arbeiten. Dabei sollen die nachhaltigen Technologien von AkzoNobel nicht nur für den Einsatz in der Formel 1 weiterentwickelt werden, sondern auch für Anwendungen in der gesamten Automobilindustrie.
"Unsere innovativen Fähigkeiten entsprechen den sehr hohen Leistungsanforderungen von McLaren", sagte AkzoNobel CEO, Hans Wijers. "Dank des Wissensaustauschs während der bestehenden Partnerschaft ist es uns bereits gelungen, 80 Prozent der maßgeschneiderten Lösungen für McLaren auch in geschäftlich verwertbare Vorschläge für AkzoNobel Kunden umzuwandeln. Beide Unternehmen leisten zurzeit Pionierarbeit, die wir nun im Rahmen der neuen, spannenden Vereinbarung weiter ausbauen werden: So können wir eine neue Generation von herausragenden Lacken entwickeln."

Der neue auffällige MP4-26 mit dem technisch ausgefeilten, hochglänzenden Sikkens-Lacksystem wird von den ehemaligen Champions Jenson Button und Lewis Hamilton gesteuert.
