ELCON breaks the bottleneck in fiber rollouts: "Fiber to the Anywhere"

Breakthrough “Fiber to Coax“ solution allows use of legacy in-house cable TV networks

.
- Leading German supplier of intelligent networking solutions to present plug & play system for distributing fiber-based triple play services via legacy TV networks
- ELCON FTTx solution allows much faster, more cost-efficient and flexible fiber deployment by converting existing in-house coax into “megabit pipelines”
- ELCON managing director Werner Neubauer: “Anyone who runs a coax network can now tap into the full potential of fiber"

A game-changing innovation by German networking technologies specialist ELCON is to break the bottleneck in fiber-based broadband internet and triple play rollouts: At ANGA Cable, ELCON is to showcase a plug & play “Fiber to the Anywhere” solution that integrates fiber-based services with any existing in-house cable TV network. Even legacy coax-based distribution infrastructures can be easily converted into megabit data pipelines (“Fiber to Coax”), which dramatically cuts costs, hassle and complexity of fiber rollouts – which means a faster return on investment. Compared to standard DOCSIS solutions, the new ELCONnect® coax System is up to 60% more cost-efficient. For the first time, also small and medium-sized network operators, utilities, hospitals, schools, as well as the hotel and housing industries are able to tap into the full potential of fiber.

The ELCONnect® coax System consists of only two, extremely compact and flexible key components that allow seamless migration towards FTTx: the central gateway links the incoming fiber cable with the in-house cable TV infrastructure, the CPE front-end connects each home to cutting-edge multimedia services. No need for wiring up new in-house networks. All residents are able to enjoy advanced broadband services, including WLAN, IPTV and telephony by using their existing devices. Self-installation of TV sets, PCs, DECT or ISDN is child’s play and thus saves installation service costs. The ELCONnect® coax System also allows integration of existing TV headends, e.g. for satellite TV reception. ELCON supports all forms of fiber deployment up to fully-fledged fibre to the home – in short: “Fiber to the Anywhere”.

Werner Neubauer, managing director at ELCON commented: “This breakthrough innovation has the potential to significantly accelerate fiber rollouts in Europe. It is based on proven technologies and fully ready to deploy. ELCON allows network operators, utilities – simply anyone who runs a coax in-house infrastructure – to step up to the fiber future, with significantly lower investments and without messing up the house.”

In addition to the broadband solution for cable TV networks, ELCON presents a wide range of Customer Premises Equipment for FTTH deployments. The ELCONnect® fiber products are equipped with interfaces for WLAN, POTS, DECT, ISDN and CATV. They provide cutting-edge Ethernet switching performance and outstanding ease of installation. ELCON solutions support all kinds of fiber-based services: The housing industry and utilities are increasingly exploring fiber for media and telecommunication services, but also for smart metering and integration with smart energy grids.
