InfiniteFocus basiert auf der Technologie der Fokus-Variation. Die geringe Schärfentiefe der Optik wird genutzt um die Tiefeninformation einer Probe zu extrahieren. Dadurch gewinnt der Anwender die Topographie seiner Probenoberfläche mit punktgenauer registrierter Farbinformation.
Die Technologie der Fokus-Variation ist im aktuellen Entwurf zur kommenden ISO Norm 25178 inkludiert, die erstmals auch optische Messverfahren zur Oberflächencharakterisierung standardisiert. Typische Einsatzbereiche sind die metallbearbeitende Industrie, Form- und Werkzeugbau, Präzisionsfertigung und Feinwerktechnik, Elektronik, Medizintechnik u.a. Korrosionsanalysen und tribologische Untersuchungen auch bei großen Geometrien zählen zu den Standardanwendungen des Verfahrens.
