Es wird erwartet, dass der Embedded Mikroprozessormarkt in diesem Jahr 6 Milliarden US $ erreicht und laut VDC Research Group bis 2014 mit einer jährlichen Wachstumsrate von 12 bis 15 Prozent expandieren wird. AMDs Embedded APUs, diskrete Grafikprozessoren sowie Opteron(TM) Prozessoren sind für den Einsatz in einer Vielzahl von Sub-Segmenten innerhalb des Embedded Marktes entwickelt. Dazu zählen unter anderem Kommunikation, Storage sowie viele andere leistungsintensive und energiesensitive Applikationen.
Iyengar bringt mehr als 20 Jahre Industrieerfahrung mit in die neue Embedded Solutions Group. Vor seiner Zeit bei AMD hatte Iyengar mehrere Führungspositionen bei der Altera Corporation inne, darunter seiner letzte Position als Vice President von Alteras Military, Industrial, Computing (MIC) Business Division. Er führte auch Alteras Communication Business Unit, die unter seiner Führung Zuwächse beim Umsatz sowie den Marktanteilen erzielte. Iyengar hat einen Master of Business Administration der Carnegie Mellon University und absolvierte erfolgreich ein grundständiges Ingenieursstudium an der Bangalore University.
