160.000 deutsche Namen von Personen, die im Zeitraum von 1795 und 1925 in den USA lebten, sind ab sofort online auf Ancestry.de verfügbar. Ancestry.de ist Teil des globalen Netzwerkes der Ahnen- und Familienforschungswebseiten von Ancestry. Insgesamt umfasst die US-Reisepassanträge-Datenbank 2,4 Millionen Einträge Amerika Reisender sowie eine Vielzahl an Passbildern.
Diese Sammlung wird aufgrund der vielen deutschen Namen von deutschen Ahnenforschern mit Vorfahren, die nach Amerika ausgewandert sind, mit großem Interesse begrüßt. Die Antragsstellung umfasst Name, Geburtsdatum, Geburtsort, Adresse, Datum der Ankunft in den Vereinigten Staaten, Wohnsitz und Informationen dazu, wann die Aufenthaltsgenehmigung ausgestellt wurde. Einige Aufzeichnungen beinhalten auch Informationen zum Grund der Reise, den Beruf und ein Passfoto.
Viele eingebürgerte deutsche Emigranten gaben als Grund für den US-Passantrag an, ihre Familie in Deutschland oder Europa besuchen zu wollen. In der US-Reisepassanträge-Datenbank sind auch berühmte Namen wie Walt Disney oder Ernest Hemingway zu finden, die beide einen Passantrag zur Ausreise nach Europa gestellt haben, um im ersten Weltkrieg als Ambulanzfahrer eingesetzt zu werden.
