- arvato company recognized as a forward-thinking company
- Successful project opens up dialog between students and companies
High school students have presented arvato Systems with an award based on its status as a forward-thinking company as part of the ‘DIY.do it yourself: Shape Your Future’ project.
A group of high school students put arvato Systems under the microscope by examining criteria such as resource efficiency, training activities, and shaping a modern working world as part of their ‘DIY.do it yourself: Shape Your Future’ project. 13 teams from the Ostwestfalen region of North-West Germany visited a number of companies over the past few weeks before each team selected their champion company on ‘Technology Day.’The project groups developed surveys in which the students asked questions on sustainability and environmental protection. The surveys were also aimed at gathering information on how to successfully participate in a company and finding out whether the companies are involved in any climate protection projects. The students awarded companies points based on flexible working hours, holiday allowances for employees, job prospects for apprentices, and, above all, for using renewable energy sources.
The students were particularly impressed with the level of energy efficiency of the systems in use at arvato Systems’ own data center. During a tour of the facility, the Energy Efficiency Manager provided the young students with an insight into some of the procedures in place under an overall concept, including cutting-edge cold aisle containment and the outside cooling systems designed for climate control. arvato Systems has been a member of a ‘Learning Energy Efficiency Network’ (LEEN) for a number of years and provided the youngsters with an experience that was both novel and exciting.
The students were impressed by the company’s various social security benefits as well as the proportion of trainees offered permanent employment after completion of training. arvato Systems aims to retain 100 percent of its trainees and is close to reaching this target, meaning that the number of skilled professionals at the company is constantly increasing. arvato Systems is currently in the process of training 25 young IT experts (as well as the commercial trainees employed through the Bertelsmann Group) in various different skilled occupations. The competition was organized by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) in collaboration with partner Energie Impuls OWL and employment agencies from the across the region. One of the aims of the competition was to provide young people with a greater understanding of how companies operate.
The initiative marks the beginning of an ongoing project that aims to establish and maintain direct dialog between companies and young people in the region.
