As a systems integrator, arvato Systems offers tailor-made, industry-specific solutions based on standard software and uses SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) to manage warehouse processes. Against this background, SAP EWM will be validated by the WMS evaluation platform ‘warehouse logistics.’ In addition to this, arvato Systems also intends to acquire WMS specialists from Fraunhofer IML for its own customer projects as required. Matthias Martens, SAP Director Logistics Excellence at arvato Systems and Detlef Spee, Department Director Intralogistics and IT Planning at Fraunhofer IML, hosted the official kickoff on 13 March for this contractual cooperation. The arvato Systems booth at the LogiMAT logistics trade fair, which will take place from 13 to 15 March in Stuttgart, Germany, set the stage for the kickoff ceremony.
arvato Systems will present a showcase including a ‘3D material flow simulation & emulation’ in Hall 7 at Booth 446, which will be used to help test new warehouse projects in advance. This enables the risk of planning errors to be drastically reduced. Other highlights of the trade fair include methods for balancing CO2 and monitoring CO2, both presented by arvato Systems. Optimization of paths within the warehouse are another topic. Besides the warehouse management system ‘SAP Extended Warehouse Management’ (EWM), arvato Systems will also be presenting the module ‘SAP Transport Management’ (TM) and the SAP-based logistics software for delivery companies and logistics service providers ‘best4log-x’ in Stuttgart.
Fraunhofer IML qualifies as the top source for all inquiries involving complete logistics systems, and the institute is active in all areas of internal and external logistics. Fraunhofer IML, which was founded in 1981, currently employs 190 scientists and 250 doctorate students and undergrads, who are assisted by colleagues in workshops, laboratories, and service areas. The ‘warehouse logistics’ team was created in February 2000 by Fraunhofer IML and IPL Consultants B.V. Induvation GmbH was acquired in 2010 as an additional partner, which offers services via the platform beyond the borders of Germany, especially for the Italian market.
