The German government wants to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Germany by 2020. To achieve this, it launched the Integrated Energy and Climate Program (IEKP) in 2007. The '30 Pilot Networks' climate protection initiative adopted by the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) is creating additional incentives for companies to protect the environment.
Ten to 15 companies will join together to form a learning networkunder the coordination of a network partner. The Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI monitors scientific aspects of the project and in the process, supports participating companies in terms of increasing energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. In addition, common goals are coordinated and documented annually.
Resource conservation has always been very important to arvato systems as one of the largest data center operators in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region, and therefore, one with high power requirements. Numerous measures to improve energy efficiency have been implemented in recent years.
The latest measure is the recently completed modernization of the data center with cold aisle containment of server racks. This modern climate control technology further reduces energy consumption. arvato Systems will bring the experience it gained during modernization to the '30 Pilot Networks' project and provide project participants with information at regularly scheduled meetings.
