orcharhino 7.0: New version of the IT infrastructure orchestration solution includes installation on EL9, Rolling Content View and improved usability

ATIX AG has released the new version 7.0 of orcharhino

(PresseBox) (Munich, )
The enterprise open-source solution for orchestrating and automating IT infrastructures has been given a completely revised look and a number of significant technical innovations. The focus of the release is on installation on Enterprise Linux 9 (EL9), as well as simplified usability and advanced features, in particular a resource quota plug-in (tech preview) and a new ‘Rolling Content View’. The new version is available at www.orcharhino.com.

Support for Enterprise Linux 9 (EL9)

orcharhino can now be installed on EL9 platforms such as AlmaLinux 9, Rocky Linux 9, Oracle Linux 9 and RHEL 9. New installations can thus use the latest and actively supported Enterprise Linux environments. Existing installations on EL8 are supported up to version 7.1, with an upgrade option to EL9 thereafter.

New design and improved user interface

Parallel to the technical release, orcharhino has undergone a complete rebranding. The new version comes with a new colour system and integrates a more intuitive layout, which further improves user-friendliness and efficiency for administrators.

Rolling Content View

orcharhino 7.0 introduces the ‘Rolling Content View’, which provides access to the latest packages without the need to publish and distribute new versions of the Content View. It combines the advantages of the Default Organisation View with full control over which repositories are accessible to hosts.

Salt 3006.9

orcharhino 7.0 provides access to Salt 3006.9, replacing the discontinued Salt 3005. As a Long-Term Support (LTS) release, Salt 3006.9 provides a reliable way to integrate a system management stack with orcharhino. This gives administrators up-to-date configuration management.

Puppet 8

orcharhino 7.0 adds support for Puppet 8 while continuing to support Puppet 7. This update facilitates a smooth transition to the latest Puppet stack and provides the flexibility to customize setups before Puppet 7 reaches its end-of-life in 2025.

Full ARM64 and AWS Graviton support

The update extends full ARM64 client support to all supported Linux distributions, including AlmaLinux, Debian, RHEL, and Ubuntu. In addition, AWS Graviton Compute Resources are supported, enabling ARM64-based hosts to be deployed and managed in AWS environments.

Resource Quota Plugin

A new resource quota plugin, available as a tech preview, allows administrators to limit CPU, RAM, and storage allocations during host deployment. Although not intended for productive use, users should have the opportunity to test the feature, collect feedback and influence further development.

Further updates
  • Assisted Update Service: Supports smooth major and minor updates.
  • New website: A newly designed website (orcharhino.com) improves access to resources and support.
Further information can be found in the orcharhino documentation. For more details, see the release notes.
