Gemeinsam mit dem Council for Geoscience (CGS) aus Südafrika organisiert das Zentrum für Umweltforschung / Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) das Kolloquium „Data Integration Technologies for Earth System Modeling and Research Management“. Die Veranstaltung ist Bestandteil des Deutsch-Südafrikanischen Jahres 2012-2013. Beak stellt Verfahren der Dateninterpretation mit Hilfe künstlicher neuronaler Netze vor: „Processing of geoscientific data using neural networks: Basics, chances, experiences”. Andreas Knobloch präsentiert ausgewählte Ergebnisse und Erfahrungen der Rohstoffprognose als Ergebnis der langjährigen Arbeit von Beak bei der Entwicklung und Anwendung der Software „advangeo®“. Die Erweiterung „advangeo® minerals“ mit vielen zusätzlichen Features für die Anwendung in der Rohstoffprospektion ist Anfang 2013 kommerziell verfügbar.
