With its innovative ECOLINE+ reciprocating compressors, BITZER has once again expanded the range of transcritical CO2 applications in terms of environmental friendliness and efficiency. For this development, the compressor specialist based in Sindelfingen took third place in the ‘Refrigeration and air-conditioning innovations’ category of the Deutscher Kältepreis awards presented by the Federal Ministry for the Environment. Federal Minister for the Environment Svenja Schulze presented the trophy to Dr Armin Walz, Head of Application Engineering at BITZER, and Andreas Riesch, Director of Sales for Germany and Switzerland, in Berlin on 7 May. ‘For us, the Deutscher Kältepreis award is an impressive validation of our decades of development activities in the area of compressor technology for the refrigerant CO2. The fact that these efforts have been acknowledged by the highest political level is a huge honour for us,’ says Dr Armin Walz. And Andreas Riesch adds: ‘Technical innovations are just one part of the solution – we also need to focus on people. And that’s why we opened the SCHAUFLER Academy in Rottenburg in 2016, where we offer special training courses to acquaint all those who are interested with the requirements of modern and environmentally friendly systems in theory and practice.’ For more than 20 years, BITZER has been one of the leading manufacturers of refrigeration compressors for environmentally friendly and energy-efficient CO2 applications. This natural refrigerant boasts a global warming potential of 1, making it virtually climate-neutral.
Outstanding innovation: ECOLINE+
With the ECOLINE+ series, BITZER has managed to combine several innovations in a single product. The virtually stepless VARISTEP mechanical capacity control, the optimised and highly efficient line-start permanent-magnet motor (LSPM) and the intelligent IQ module make the compressor series efficient, reliable, user-friendly and future-proof. Thanks to LSPM technology, the ECOLINE+ compressors offer, among other things, especially high motor efficiency and thus improve the annual performance figures by up to 14 per cent. And the VARISTEP capacity control enables a wide range of control between 10 and 100 per cent. As a result, compressor capacity can be optimally adapted in line with the cooling load in the system.
The Berliner ENERGIETAGE conference is one of the most important events in Germany on the topic of energy efficiency. The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety has presented the Deutscher Kältepreis award for the sixth time as part of the National Climate Initiative (NCI). In addition to the area of ‘Refrigeration and air conditioning innovations’, the Federal Ministry for the Environment also presents the Deutscher Kältepreis award in the areas of ‘Energy-efficient refrigeration and air-conditioning systems’ and ‘Intelligent monitoring of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems’.
The BITZER Group is the world’s largest independent manufacturer of refrigeration compressors. With its distributors and production facilities for reciprocating, screw and scroll compressors, as well as heat exchangers and pressure vessels, BITZER is represented all over the globe. In 2017, 3,500 employees generated sales of €740 million.
