BITMi begrüßt EU-Strafe im Google Android Fall

Heute hat die Europäische Kommission das lang erwartete Urteil im Google Android Kartellverfahren verkündet, das zu einer Rekordstrafe von 4,3 Milliarden Euro geführt hat. Laut dem Bundesverband IT-Mittelstand e.V. (BITMi) wird die Google Entscheidung den Wettbewerb für Apps und Onlinedienste fördern.

„Wir erhoffen uns von der Entscheidung der Europäischen Kommission im Google Android Fall einen Aufbruch der Monopolstellung Googles zugunsten unabhängiger App-Entwickler“, so Dr. Oliver Grün, Präsident des Bundesverbands IT-Mittelstand e.V. (BITMi) und der European DIGTAL SME Alliance (DIGITAL SME).

„Google kann ohne konkurrierende App Stores von den Entwicklern einen immer höheren Anteil des Verkaufspreises verlangen. Ein weiterer Vorteil für Google – und ein Nachteil für alle anderen – ist, dass Google exklusiven Zugang zu Daten hat, die bei Nutzung der Apps anfallen, darunter auch Daten und Standort des Nutzers. Das schafft alleine für Google enorme Möglichkeiten, Daten zu sammeln und neue digitale Geschäftsmodelle zu entwickeln. Schließlich kann Google neu entwickelte Apps einfach in das zur Installation erzwungene App-Bundle aufnehmen und somit eine kostenfreie Distribution auf Milliarden Smartphones erreichen“, so Grün weiter.

Die European DIGITAL SME Alliance ist von der Europäischen Kommission anerkannte interessierte dritte Partei im EU-Verfahren gegen Google. DIGITAL SME ist eine unabhängige Organisation, die ausschließlich die Interessen der KMU vertritt und nicht an kommerzielle Parteien gebunden ist, die gegen Google agieren. Die Intervention zielt darauf ab, sicherzustellen, dass kleine und mittelständische App-Entwickler von einem offenen und wettbewerbsfähigen Android-Ökosystem profitieren können.
