The number of exhibitors at this year’s MEDTEC (Medical Equipment Design & Technology Exhibition & Conference) climbed by 14 percent to 635 with 54 percent of companies coming from outside Germany. Exhibition space for 2008 totaled 10,000 square meters, an increase of 25 percent over 2007. The number of visitors to Europe’s largest trade show for medical-device technology rose by 5 percent to 9,186. Attendees came from a total of 24 countries. 21 percent were from beyond Germany – the majority of them from Europe, with some from as far afield as the USA and Asia.
Exhibitors impressed by visitors’ expertise
Visitors included a significant number of highly skilled professionals and decision-makers – providing participating companies with excellent opportunities to establish valuable new contacts. “This is the second time we’ve exhibited at MEDTEC. And this year we’ve been even more successful than last. The show is really going from strength to strength in terms of quality. Visitors come with very clearly defined challenges, and are looking for corresponding solutions and suppliers. What’s more, the show is attended by the kind of decision-makers we need to meet. That’s why we’ve already signed up for MEDTEC 2009,” states Roland Kaufmann, CEO and Head of Marketing at Novoplast AG, based in Wallbach, Switzerland. Geo Ostergaard, President and Administration Director of Moeller & Devicon A/S, based in Sandved, Denmark, is similarly upbeat: “We’ve made excellent contacts here, and will certainly be coming back in 2009. There are two key shows for us – and MEDTEC is one of them.”
MEDTEC 2008 was also a resounding success for DuPont Medical Packaging: “We not only hooked up with representatives of companies we already do business with. We’ve also been talking to enterprises from various European countries, North America, and Asia, that are not yet customers,” says Marcello Milani, Global Marketing Manager at the company. “MEDTEC is very well organized and is growing every year – and it is also making advances in terms of quality,” explains Dr. Freddy Metzmann, Business Manager for Central and South Europe at Medifiq Healthcare Corporation. “The event gives us an excellent platform for raising our profile and highlighting our company’s competitive differentiators.” And Andreas Engl from Marketing Communications at Henkel KgaA is also more than satisfied: “We’ve exhibited at MEDTEC many times, and we always encounter first-rate visitors, people who are industry professionals – in other words, precisely the audience we’re looking to address. Once again, participating has really paid off for us.”
MEDTEC conference – Europe’s leading industry event for information-gathering and networking
This year’s MEDTEC was accompanied by a three-day conference with a multi-track English-language program. The 133 delegates were able to catch up on all the latest technical and legal issues. The program included expert insights into the impact of European Directive 2007/47/EC, both in Germany and Europe as a whole. Speakers from leading companies, institutions, government agencies, and research establishments gave presentations on a wide range of topics, including innovative R&D, materials testing, validation, new technologies for healthcare delivery and manufacturing, and effective, efficient management of new business models in the medical-technology industry.
Next year’s MEDTEC will be held from 3 to 5 March 2009 in Stuttgart. And judging by the number of stands booked and reservations received to date, the event is set to grow yet again.
