ContiTech took over the site and the machinery from a Turkish company that had produced offloading marine and docking hoses there. Explaining the acquisition, Matthias Schönberg, head of ContiTech Fluid Technology Business Unit, noted: "To meet the huge increase in demand, we have decided to invest into additional production capacity." This will take some of the workload off the existing plants in Grimsby, UK, and Szeged, Hungary. In addition, ContiTech hopes to use this plant as a launching pad for direct sales to the Turkic countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Customers there will benefit from shorter distances, improved logistics and more service right on-site.
Production is scheduled to be up and running in Cerkezköy as of the second half of the year. Annually, more than a thousand pieces of large-diameter hoses are planned to be manufactured on more than 5,000 m2 factory site in three-shift operation.
Up to now, the Oil & Marine segment has been operating plants and engineering offices in the UK, Hungary, the USA, and Germany. Construction of a further production plant in Macaé/Brazil will start in the spring. In addition, a sales and service support center has been set up in Dubai. In the second quarter of this year, this will be expanded into a further assembling facility.
