"With the expansion and consolidation of Thermopol, ContiTech is getting ready for the impending changes in the American automobile industry," says Günter Frölich, head of ContiTech's Fluid Technology business unit. Manufacturers want to produce vehicles whose performance and energy efficiency go further towards meeting the buyers' expectations than has previously been the case. Turbochargers for diesel and gasoline engines play an important role here. "Thanks to new technologies, we can offer our customers the necessary highquality hoses from local production," stresses managing director Ed Cotter. "Many car manufacturers in NAFTA attach great value to having local suppliers."
With Ford and Cummins, it has already been possible to win over America's most successful carmaker at present and the world's largest manufacturer of diesel engines as customers for the new products. Production in the new facilities should get started by December. ContiTech is investing €3.7 million in the expansion, which is creating 80 additional jobs. At present Somersworth has a workforce of around 140 at its 8.2acre (3.3hectare) plant.
