ContiTech's New App Helps Design Bearing Systems

Vibration analysis via smartphone now possible directly on engines, vehicle cabs, and many industrial devices - If need be, users can calculate operating vibration themselves - Bushings

ContiTech is expanding its mobile service applications. The range now also includes the free ViProtect app for measuring vibration and more easily designing flexible bearings. It can be used to analyze a variety of industrial systems and even to take on-site measurements. It thus complements professional analysis technology for users in the European Union and Switzerland.

"ViProtect will allow us to give our customers advice even faster and more efficiently," says Frank Dahmen, head of sales in the Industry segment at ContiTech Vibration Control. "It recommends products for suspending mobile or static engines, machines, and almost all devices used in industry."

The app recommends specific bearing elements and shows their technical data. Users can request more information using a contact form. Data on the mass of the system, the number of bearing points, and the excitation frequency are required for the analysis. A particular highlight: "If the excitation frequency is unknown, the app can even calculate it before design work gets going," says Dr. Stefan Narberhaus, head of industrial development at ContiTech Vibration Control. It only takes ten seconds for the mobile application to measure the frequency directly on the device. The smartphone is simply placed on the structure to be measured.

The ContiTech app is available from the Apple App Store free of charge. Users will also find detailed operating instructions there. The app runs on the operating system iOS 7.

Vibration competence powerhouse

At the CeMAT, ContiTech Vibration Control will also showcase customized vibration-control innovations for construction machines and industrial trucks. Bushings make possible rotational movements and can also insulate against undesired vibrations.

With an integrated fluid system, hydro bushings provide greater comfort in driver cabs than do classic variants. They can, for example, be used as engine and cab mounts in industrial vehicles. The hydraulic absorbers also have an integrated fluid system. Suspension spring characteristics and damping behavior can be separately optimized in the case of these elements.
