Ballnuss arbeitet bespielsweise nicht hauptsächlich mit den typischen lichtstarken Porträtfestbrennweiten, sondern lieber mit einem lichtstarken 24-70-mm-Standardzoom - das lässt ihn flexibel agieren. Bei Offenblende wird ihm das Bild zu unscharf, er setzt auf f/3.3 bis f/3.5. Zwischen 5 und 6 Uhr ist das Tageslicht für ihn am besten. Auf ein Stativ verzichtet er oft, denn er bewegt sich am Set lieber mit der Kamera, um die beste Perspektive zu finden. So lockert er außerdem die Atmosphäre schnell auf.
Nach der Aufnahme geht die Arbeit am Bildschirm weiter. Keine Frage, für Profis ist Photoshop das Standardprogramm zur Bildbearbeitung. Das aktuelle Heft enthält aber auch einen ausführlichen Workshop zum Thema Porträt-Retusche mit Gimp, denn viele bisherige Photoshop-Anwender suchen angesichts des neuen Lizenzmodells von Adobe nach Alternativen. Die Open-Source-Bildbearbeitung Gimp hat dabei zwei große Vorteile: Sie ist kostenlos und sehr vielfältig.
