Deutsche Telekom and the world's leading energy provider ista International are cooperating on the collection of water, heating, gas and electricity data using mobile communications technology. Water, heating and power meter readings collected by ista using state-of-the-art radio technology will be sent to a local ista communication unit which then bundles and forwards the data to ista's servers over Deutsche Telekom's highly reliable mobile communications network. As meters no longer have to be read in person, tenants no longer need to stay at home on a specific date.
Remote meter reading also provides the basis for other new services, such as ista energy data management. This service provides users with a monthly analysis of consumption data via an online dashboard as well as in app format, and makes nasty surprises in the utility bill or ancillary costs a thing of the past.

Deutsche Telekom will be presenting more M2M solutions for the industrial automation technology at the sps ipc drives trade fair in Nuremberg from November 26 to 28. Visitors to stand 340 in hall 10 can see up close how M2M enables the improved communication and maintenance of technical systems and machines. Deutsche Telekom solutions such as the 'Serial Switch Network' allow customers to securely link up units across the globe using serial interfaces - from elevators and medical equipment to production lines and pump stations. Analysis of the operating data offers a closer look at how machines are performing. And the maintenance crew is immediately alerted to faults thanks to remote diagnostics, so any necessary replacement parts are sure to be in the service truck when the next maintenance is due. This improves the service and is better for the environment.
