ICO-MIM ist ein konvergenter mobiler Mediendienst, der eine breite Palette von Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationsbedürfnissen von Endverbrauchern erfüllt. Er bedient sich der nächsten Generation des von ICO entwickelten geostationären Satelliten (ICO G1) und einer terrestrischen Zusatzkomponente (Ancillary Terrestrial Component, ATC). Der Start des ICO G1 ist für Januar 2008 geplant.
In den von Hughes entwickelten ICO-MIM-Terminals werden die DVB-SH-Chipsätze von DiBcom verbaut. Diese ermöglichen Multicast-Video-Liveübertragungen über den ICO G1 und die ATC. Darüber hinaus werden mit der GMR-Luftschnittstellentechnologie von Hughes Kommunikationsdienste zur Vollduplex-Übertragung von Satelliten-IP-Daten bereitgestellt.
Alcatel-Lucent, End-Netzwerkintegrator von ICO, wird den Systemaufbau und das Netzwerkdesign entwickeln als auch die endherstellerunabhängige Netzwerkintegration des Alphatests bereitstellen.
