Many businesses have changed their focus regarding sustainability reporting. Previously it was seen as enough to follow legal requirements, but now businesses are focusing increasingly on meeting expectations from customers, investors and employees. Reporting in compliance with international reporting standards such as GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), and IPIECA (the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues) has become a very important motivation for improving environmental reporting. Managers see the value of benchmarking and comparison to other businesses.
"The Synergi Environmental Management Module gives businesses the opportunity to show that they're at the very forefront of trends in sustainability. We are confident that the new version of Synergi Life is representing an innovative way to handle environmental issues in an effective and profitable way," says Espen Wøien, DNV Software' Director of Operation.
Synergi Life now offers a wide range of new features which will support the users in achieving their KPI's: There are new functions that make the data much more available and usable. There are new tailored screens for recording energy, material and water consumption. It also includes recording of waste and environmental improvement plans. Automatic unit conversions and automatic calculation of greenhouse gases and other emissions are added features in the new module.
With the new Environmental Performance Report, businesses can follow trends and clearly see the need for implementation of improvement measures and follow-up, both locally and globally. One extremely time-consuming process that can be totally bypassed is the use of spread sheets such as Excel to collect and report environmental data.
"In some cases we're talking about hundreds of spread sheets. Environmental data can now be reported directly in to Synergi from all of the local business units. The data can be reported in local units of measurement, and will automatically be recalculated. Greenhouse gas emissions will automatically be calculated from reported energy consumption and aggregated," says Jan Edvard Faugstad, DNV Software's Head of Section at Synergi Development.
