EWA and DWA joined during the 14th European Water, Wastewater and Waste Symposium

When today for the fifteenth time IFAT - the International Trade Fair for Water - Sewage - Refuse - Recycling - opens its doors at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre, from 5th to 9th of May the visitors of the most important world Environmental Fair will have the opportunity to visit the specialty international conference programme. The European Water Association (EWA) and the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA), together with different partners from the water and waste management sectors, are organising the 14th European Water, Wastewater and Solid Waste Symposium. Expected will be more than 1000 participants and visitors.

Highlights of the Symposium are the Opening of the EWA 3rd Joint Specialty Conference "Sustainable Water Management in Response to 21st Century Pressures" by Mr. Loïc Fauchon, president of the World Water Council, and the participation of the German Federal Minister Sigmar Gabriel to the workshop "Germany - Partner for Water Management, Water Technology and Capacity Building".

EWA discusses the sustainable water management in the 21st century
The international conference "Sustainable Water Management in Response to 21st Century Pressures" is organised in cooperation with EWA, the Japan Sewage Works Association (JSWA), and the Water Environmental Federation (WEF), USA. The specialty conference will take place on 6th and 7th May 2008, and will start with a session "Coping with Climate Change and Disasters". On that day the participants and speakers will present new topics on the issue of climate change.

The opening will start with a keynote speech of Mr. Loïc Fauchon, president of the World Water Council. On the 7th May two topics will be discussed - "Techniques and Energy" and "Organisational Approaches". The presentations will be done in English and translated simultaneously in German. During the two-day-conference around 30 posters will be presented.

During the Symposium twelve different workshops will take place organised by DWA: "Germany - Partner for Water Management, Water Technology and Capacity Building" (German and English, 5th May 2008, afternoon), "Sewer Inspection and Rehabilitation" (English, 6th May 2008, morning), "Wastewater in Reuse in the Middle East" (English, 6th May 2008, morning), "Oil and Disaster Protection" (German, 6th May 2008, afternoon), "Groundwater Protection in Africa" (English, 6th May 2008, afternoon), "Chances and Challenges for the Water Sector in East Africa" (English, 7th May 2008, morning), "Energy Potentials of the Water and Solid Waste in Germany" (German, 7th May 2008, afternoon), "Sewage Sludge Management" (English, 8th May 2008, morning), "Flood Protection" (English, 8th May 2008, mornings), "Qualification in the Water and Waste Sector - Technicians" (English, 8th May 2008, afternoon), "Coastal Protection and Climate Change" (English, 8th May 2008, afternoon) and "Membrane Technology in the domestic wastewater and industrial wastewater treatment" (German und English, 9th May 2008, full day).

The Events will take place in the New Munich Trade Fair Centre (Entrance West) in Hall C1 and Rooms A21/22 and A31/32.

EWA
The European Water Association (EWA) is an independent non-governmental and non-profit making organisation promoting the sustainable and improved management of the total water cycle and hence the environment as a whole.

It is one of the major professional associations in Europe that covers the whole water cycle, wastewater as well as drinking water and water and wastewater treatment related wastes. With member associations from nearly all European Countries, EWA includes most of the current European Union Member States as well as Norway and Switzerland. The German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) is the German speaker for all comprehensive water issues and strongly supports the development of a secure and sustainable water management. The some 15,000 members represent experts and executives of municipalities, universities, engineering consultancies, public authorities, and companies. Their work focuses mainly on preparing and updating the DWA Standards and on providing input to the preparation of technical standards on national and international level (www.dwa.de).

The 14 000 members present the experts and managers from local authorities, universities, engineering consultants, and companies dealing with the development and actualisation of technical regulations and issuing of expert standards on national and international level. Included are topics not only concerning technical and research work, but also management ad regulation for the environmental and water protection.
