NST - Next generation sealing technology

Fluoropolymer solutions for the chemical processing industry

(PresseBox) (Neuss, )
Dyneon is introducing an extended product portfolio of its New Sealing Technology (NST) incorporating 3M spheric fillers in PTFE to generate innovative high performance compounds at Achema trade show in Frankfurt. The new technology helps to master a number of challenging sealing applications, such as radial shaft and piston seals and offers both performance and environmental benefits.

A new range of high-performance 3M Dyneon NST Compounds offer a number of benefits for process engineers. 3M Dyneon Compound NST 1111R - made from a combination of Dyneon high-performance PTFE and new 3M fillers - was developed for the production of radial shaft and piston seals and provides significant advantages for many mechanical and plant engineering applications. The high performance compound reduces leakage to a remarkably low level, supports a higher production yield and optimised seal thickness and it shows a significant improvement in wear resistance.

The new material 3M Dyneon Compound NST-R 1111R offers a number of operational efficiencies. It can be used in ram extrusion because of its bulk density, compression and automatic moulding and offers increased thermal dimensional stability.

In addition, 3M Dyneon Compound NST 2111R has been developed for applications with a reduced wall thickness and thin contours. Used in combination with isostatic moulding, it can produce incredibly thin profile geometries. In addition, this compound reduces the tendency for cracking.

NST product variant for Ramextrusion

If economic efficiency is an essential criterion in the processing of PTFE compounds then there is usually no alternative to ram extrusion. This continuous pressure sintering process produces ‘endless’ semi-finished products such as tubes, rods or other profiles, which are often extruded directly to the final size generating additional savings during machining or in reducing waste. For this reason, Dyneon has developed a dedicated grade for the ram extrusion process named 3M Dyneon Compound NST-R 1111R. The low wall friction in the extrusion die caused by the filler and supported by the harder agglomerate grain, enables the production of hollow profiles with a wall thickness as small as two millimetres. Rod or piston seals can thus be produced without re-machining the inside or outside diameter Last but not least, the cycle time for the assembly process can be effectively shortened.

3M, Dyneon and TFM are brands of the 3M Company.
