Procter & Gamble entscheidet sich für Singapur

(PresseBox) (Singapur, )

Procter & Gamble Selects Singapore as the home of its first perfume plant in
Asia

More than three million kg of perfume produced at the plant will touch
consumers from Asia

Singapore, March 5, 2008 – The familiar scent of Pantene and Olay that greets
millions of consumers across Asia each day will now be produced in Singapore, with
the opening of Procter & Gamble’s first perfume manufacturing facility here.
Procter & Gamble (P&G) today opened its first fragrance manufacturing operation in
Asia, making the republic a development hub for P&G's billion dollar brands such as
Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Olay, Ariel, Tide and Downy. Situated in Tuas, the
6,500-sq-metre-plant is also the company's first manufacturing facility in Singapore
and the first perfume plant by a multinational consumer goods company to be
opened here.

The opening of the Singapore plant is part of a long-standing relationship between
P&G and the Economic Development Board (EDB). For example, through its
partnership with EDB, P&G also works closely with A*Star’s Institute for Materials
Research and Engineering (IMRE), under which P&G gets preference to look at
IMRE’s new research, and P&G similarly shares its innovations.
The Singapore plant represents yet another example of a synergistic combination of
P&G’s innovation focus with Singapore’s status as an innovation hub. P&G's choice
of Singapore also underscores the importance of the republic as a critical link in
P&G's global perfume network, its world-class infrastructure, professional talent pool,
pro-business environment and agility.

"Singapore is a natural choice as the home of our first perfume plant in Asia, given its
focus on innovation, strong infrastructure and business-friendly environment,” said
P&G Group President of Asia Deb Henretta. “With our plant opening, perfume raw
materials from around the world will come together in Singapore to create the
fragrances that go into market-leading brands consumers trust and love. Our
perfume plant in Singapore will be a critical link in our global perfume network.”
“We are honoured that Singapore was chosen as P&G’s strategic site for perfumes
manufacturing in Asia. P&G’s endorsement has brought us one step closer to
realizing our vision for Singapore as Asia’s Lifestyle Lab, a location for consumer
care companies to dream, design, and develop solutions for consumers in Asia,”
says Ms Aw Kah Peng, Assistant Managing Director, EDB.

With the addition of the Singapore facility, P&G now operates four perfume plants
worldwide. The other locations of its perfume plants are the US, Germany and
Mexico.
“Leveraging Singapore’s status as an innovation hub, our perfume plant will play a
significant role in propelling our global business as the incubator for P&G perfumes
worldwide,” Henretta said.

The multi-million dollar Singapore plant, which was completed in seven months, is
supported by a team of 40 perfumers. Since operations began in December last
year, more than 20 fragrances are already being produced in Singapore. At its
current production level, the plant will supply more than three million kg of perfume
annually for P&G brands manufactured across Asia.

Based on extensive benchmarking with industry partners, the state-of-the-art design
of the plant enables highly productive, complex but low-cost production of perfumes.
Ingredients and raw materials used are sourced from around the world, from
countries such as Switzerland, France, China and Japan, while the advanced,
automated perfume-making systems and state-of-the-art equipment come from
countries such as USA, China, France, Canada and Singapore.
Key innovation highlights include advanced real-time inventory and production
control systems that monitor the production process and reflect changes
instantaneously; a “Grocery Aisle” and Library, where more than 300 perfume
ingredients and raw materials are immediately available on demand; and an Odor
Evaluation Room that is designed to be virtually odor free for quality control
assessment of perfumes produced at the plant.
