Why the move to a bigger facility?
Samuel Sadoulet, Executive Vice President, Engineering and Manufacturing, stated, “Simply put, we outgrew our old facility. This new manufacturing facility is a fully compliant, cutting edge structure, with the capacity to meet the growing needs of our customers and to deliver high precision optics. We’ve focused heavily on the aggressive expansion of our asphere capabilities as well as thin films coating – critical areas for our customers.”
Already a global optics powerhouse, Edmund Optics’ Singapore expansion increases the firm’s high volume production abilities whilst also enhancing quality inspection and further reducing customer lead times. EO has more than doubled the coating space and invested in new coating equipment with load locking capabilities. This allows for continuous production immediately increasing the plant’s capacity by more than 20%. To meet increased demand, EO have also invested in an additional manufacturing cell for Aspheric lenses, giving them the ability to grow with their customers and increase global production by more than 40% within the next 12 months.
“This plant will bring more optics, more technology and more service to our customers worldwide,” added Vincent Thong, Sales Director, EO Singapore. “The expanded capabilities of our new facility strengthens EO’s support to our Asia-Pacific partners and reinforces our overall global image as a leading optics manufacturer.”
EO’s Singapore team is already renowned for their expertise in prism manufacturing, polishing, coating and metrology. The new facility expands this even further by providing new facilities and additional resources devoted to custom design and high precision flatwork production. EO Singapore employs over 240 staff members currently.
New location; more benefits to customers and employees
Close proximity to public transportation and exceptional amenities for employees reflect EO’s continued commitment to their team and ensure it is able to capitalize on an increasingly talented pool of engineers, technicians and operators. The new building transforms EO Singapore’s sales and distribution facility which also benefits from a brand new engineering lab. Adding back office support for their Japanese customers is also part of a long-term strategy to transform Singapore into a key support hub for its operations and customers throughout Asia.
“This new facility marks a major milestone for EO Singapore; it is a significant commitment by the company to bring advanced manufacturing technology to the highly skilled people to better support its customers” Francis Ang, Managing Director EO Singapore.
