Leuchtdioden (LEDs) sind auf dem Siegeszug. Dies zeigt sich besonders bei Hochleistungs-LEDs, die konventionellen Glühlampen allmählich den Rang ablaufen. Leuchtdioden leben aber nicht nur weitaus länger - wegen ihres höheren Wirkungsgrads entsteht auch weniger Hitze. Eine wichtige Rolle könnten Leuchtdioden daher in den immer beliebteren Videoprojektoren fürs Heimkino spielen. Traditionell ist dort nämlich eine teure Gasentladungslampe eingebaut, die nur einige tausend Stunden lebt und überdies mit einem nicht ganz leisen Lüfter gekühlt werden muss. Leider werden LED-Beamer noch nicht in Massen produziert, was sich zwangsläufig in hohen Preisen niederschlägt. Die Elektronik-Zeitschrift Elektor hat deshalb ein interessantes Projekt veröffentlicht, bei dem ein älterer Beamer auf LED-Beleuchtung umgerüstet wird.
