Das neue Grundsystem ist funktionell kompatibel mit den MicroTCA-Spezifikationen. Für "Ruggedized Applications" sind in das Chassis jedoch spezielle, eigens von ELMA entwickelte Kartenführungen eingebaut. Getestet wurde bei den Vibrations- und Schocktests wie folgt:Random Vibration gemäß AC2 - VITA 47. Frequenzbereich 5 - 2.000 Hz in drei Achsen, Effektivwert der Beschleunigung 8 g, Dauer je Achse 60 Minuten.Schock gemäß AC1 - IEC 61587-1.
Wellenform Halbsinus für sechs Achsen, Beschleunigung 25 g, Einwirkungsdauer 18 ms, je Achse drei Schockbelastungen.Am Ende der Tests waren alle AMC-Module und der MCH unverändert an ihren Steckplätzen fixiert. Die unterbrechungsfreie elektrische Kontaktierung über die Goldpads zur Backplane war gewährleistet und der ungestörte Modulbetrieb sichergestellt. Damit ist das MicroTCA-Grundsystem blu!smart optimal für Einsätze unter extremen Bedingungen geeignet. Neben dem robusten Chassis blu!smart stehen für MicroTCA-Einsätze unter normalen Bedingungen die Grundsysteme blu!box, blu!cube und blu!eco zur Verfügung. Mit letzterem lassen sich besonders preisgünstige Applikationen verwirklichen, weil ELMA Teile des MicroTCA-Managements auf einer aktiven Backplane integriert hat. Dadurch können bei voller MicroTCA-Kompatibilität kostengünstigere Netzteile eingesetzt werden.
