Die FireWire IP 68 Steckverbinder bieten ein hohes Level an Schutz vor umweltbedingten Einflüssen wie Wasser und Dampf. Sie nutzen Standard Schnittstellen nach IEEE 1394a mit einer Datenübertragungsrate von bis zu 400Mbs. Dampf- und Wasserdicht nach IP68, bietet dieses Stecksystem vor allem in industriellen und "feindlichen" Umgebungen Schutz, wo eine hohe Datenübertragungsrate, kombiniert mit einer robusten und sicheren Verbindung benötigt wird. Ursprünglich entwickelt für Hochgeschwidigkeitsdatentransfer in Multimedia- Anwendungen für den Endverbraucher, ist dieses FireWire-Steckverbindersystem für den industriellen Bereich, wo Bedrohungen durch Wasser und Dampf gegeben sind, bestimmt. Beide, die 4 und 6 pol. Versionen, sind für Kabel- und Plattenmontage zu erhalten. Die Kabelstecker sind direkt an das Kabel angespritzt und sind in Standardlängen von 2 und 4m zu haben. Sie sind mit einem IP68 FireWire Stecker an der einen und mit einem Standard FireWire auf der anderen Seite ausgestattet. Andere Konfigurationen sind bei größeren Abnahmemengen möglich. Die Stecker für die Frontplattenmontage sind hinten mit einem Adapterkabel zur Leiterplattenmontage bestückt.
