Alongside economic hurdles, one of the reasons for this lack of development lies in insufficient communication between installers and end customers with regard to possible storage solutions. "Around just 20 percent of end customers were asked by installers if they wanted to combine their photovoltaic system with a solar storage solution. The exception to this rule were customers of IBC Solar, who were informed nearly twice as often about storage systems by their installers." says Dr. Thomas Olbrecht, Senior Manager at EuPD Research.
The EndcustomerMonitor also provides detailed insights into the distribution of installed storage systems, and the brand awareness of individual storage system manufacturers - the most well known of which was found to be Varta.
Alongside the focus on storage solutions, this study also covered the brands chosen by buyers of modules and inverters, as well as the topics of system maintenance and operation.
For this third edition of EuPD's EndcustomerMonitor, around 3000 PV system owners and potential buyers of residential systems across the whole of Germany were surveyed in a quantitative online questionnaire. It was found that the demographics of the system owners differs from that of the average citizen of Germany. Typically, owners of solar energy systems live in rural areas, that half of the survey participants had a net household income of at least 3000 euros, and that half of them had also at least reached the general qualification for university entrance.
All the results of the survey will be available from EuPD Research in September 2013 in the study "EndcustomerMonitor 3.0 - The German PV market from an end customer perspective - Focus: Storage".
