Three winners in the BEST PRODUCT Awards 2016

Presentation ceremony at the official opening of LogiMAT

(PresseBox) (Stuttgart, )
An intelligent order picker that interacts and keeps pace with the operator, adapting intuitively to his/her working rhythm so that he/she can concentrate fully on picking; a software solution that enables intermodal 360° transport monitoring; and an ingenious system that enables easy standardised collection and processing of article master data – these are the innovative products and solutions that have won BEST PRODUCT Awards at LogiMAT 2016.

On 8 March 2016 at LogiMAT, three companies received prizes for their innovative products in the “BEST PRODUCT Awards”. This was the 13th time the awards have been presented at this International Trade Fair for Distribution, Materials Handling and Information Flow. The winning product in each category was judged to have made a significant contribution to rationalisation, saving costs and increasing productivity in intralogistics.

“Identifying the finalists from among the many entries, and then in the end choosing the winners is a tremendous challenge and also a great responsibility. The award has now achieved such importance that many big-name firms are now in the running. But the winners finally selected are all very well deserved,” said jury member Professor Dr.-Ing. Willibald A. Günthner, Chair for Materials Handling Technology, Material Flow and Logistics at the Technical University of Munich.

1. In the category "Order picking, Conveying, Lifting, Storage technology" the winner is STILL GmbH, Hamburg (Hall 8 Stand 8B41) for the order-picker STILL iGo neo CX20

Like an automatic teamworker, this intelligent order picker interacts with the operator, keeping pace with him/her as s/he moves around, but keeping a safe distance. This innovative vehicle is like a second shadow that adapts intuitively to the operator´s working rhythm. Because the picker always gives way to the operator, the operator can move around the picker freely as s/he works. That means the distances walked with manual driving become a thing of the past, as does time-consuming getting on and getting off. Instead the focus is entirely on unhindered and error-free picking. The people nearby and the environment itself are comprehensively protected. This industrial truck operates autonomously in the warehouse and has a laser-supported environment identification system which allows it to identify the warehouse topology. As well as shelves and obstacles, the system recognises the operator and other persons. This innovation delivers a hitherto unknown plus in process security and efficiency through the possibilities opened up by intuitive order-picking. And for the first time, it closes the gap between robotics and intralogistics.

2. In the category “Software, Communication, IT” the winner is Synfioo GmbH, Potsdam (Hall 7 Stand 7G01) for its product, Synfioo 360° Transportation Monitoring

For trouble-free processes in transportation companies, logistics as the interface to the outside world is of immense importance. If supplies are delayed, a deadline is missed or transports not collected on time, then in-company processes can falter. Because so many outside influences can have an impact, logistics processes in particular are very vulnerable to problems.

Supply and transport planning is therefore a very knowledge-intensive activity in which incomplete information can make it difficult to take the right decisions. Existing solutions to process and present information are not easy to integrate completely into day-to-day processes, they often ignore outside influencing factors, focus on historic analyses or fail to take account of specific circumstances affecting logistics.

Synfioo offers an intermodal 360° transport monitoring system into which are integrated many diverse internal and external influences taken from various information sources, including public ones. If relevant events occur, the user is informed.

The Synfioo software needs only a small amount of information about a transport, such as start and end time, plus the intermediate stops. Then, from a large amount of available data, it calculates in real time, for each and every transport, precisely the relevant interference factors and presents these to all the participating transport partners as a notification. The transport planner receives this via a web service in his usual planning system, the driver by SMS or in a mobile app and the recipient of the goods is informed of the new arrival time by e-mail or direct in ERP. Through real-time analysis and notification, the users have higher planning reliability and the delivery chain becomes more robust in coping with outside influences.

3. In the category “Identification, Packaging and Loading technology, Load securing” the prize goes to SICK Vertriebs-GmbH, Düsseldorf (Hall 5, Stand 5D50) for its Master Analyzer

Industry 4.0 uses and changes article master data, these are the key to flexible automation. The increasing individualisation of the products demands constant expansion and amendment of master data. They have to fulfil certain requirements such as flexibility and adaptability, so that processes can be managed in an efficient and resource-saving way. The combination of modern, ergonomic design in conjunction with modular sensorics and innovative data management is the key to flexible automation in logistics processes. The Master Analyzer from SICK enables in a very easy way the standardised collection and processing of article master data, such as size, weight, article number, including also taking a picture.

The fields of application for the Master Analyzer include collection of data at goods-entry point, to enhance transparency in all supply chain processes, to optimise warehouse space and use of storage, as well as data-collection for dispatch.
